Have you noticed that empty chair? That is Lion George's chair. George and his wife moved to Aurora this month.
I hear Lion Chuck got them a great deal. However, now it will take two bus rides for George to get to the meeting. He has officially resigned his position of roll call gatherer, guest application taker, name tag set-up, and bell ringer protector, and all around smiling face. These are the jobs that need to be done now that George is gone. Would you like to volunteer to take George's place? Perhaps buddy up with someone to take on the task? Lion Emerson has volunteered to take a few Tuesday's, but we need your help.

The Lions Club of Denver presented a check for $10,000 to Savio House. There is always a need to maintain the buildings so that the Savio staff focus on helping kids and families. Savio believes in keeping children and families together, even when they are struggling with very serious problems like child abuse, mental health issues, and drug abuse. Every day they intervene with families in crisis because, with our help, children and families avoid being torn apart and instead learn how to live safe, healthy, and happy lives.
Marie recently retired from a 25-year career in nonprofit management. She was with American Red Cross for 15 years, American Humane Association as President and CEO for six years, then Executive Director of Colorado Ballet for three years.
Marie has recently joined the board of the Denver Lyric Opera Guild, so she’s always looking for fellow opera and music fans. She also serves on the First Judicial District Nominating Commission, interviewing and nominating candidates for district judge in Jefferson and Gilpin Counties.
Marie grew up in Tennessee with seven brothers and sisters, working on a farm. “I still love gardening. I guess you never get it out of your system.” She was the first in her family to go to college, went on to get a Master’s Degree at Virginia Tech, and while she was at the Red Cross, she earned her MBA at University of Colorado.
Marie has one daughter, Kathleen, who is married to Gerry and has a two-year-old. Both Kathleen and Gerry are Yale Ph D’s and teach at University of Chicago and Northwestern University respectively.
Since retiring, Marie plays golf twice a week as long as the weather allows. Unfortunately, it may be over until next spring. But the clubs are still in the trunk, just in case!
Welcome Marie, we look forward to serving with you.
Recently, the Denver Lions Board made a decision to add a 2nd tier of membership. The new tier applies to Affiliates who would like the ability to serve on a board. The new tier will be called Active Member #2 and must be approved by the board. The Active #2 member status will apply for the duration of the service and revert back to Affiliate when the service is over.
