Speaker May 28 Jamie Giellis

Jamie empowers districts, neighborhoods, and communities to effectively manage themselves. She works closely with community members, businesses, stakeholders, and local groups to form effective public/private partnerships and implement strategies to allow for places to successfully manage their needs and thrive economically, socially, and culturally in the long-term.

She is the founder and president of Centro, a consulting firm dedicated to the strategic and (re)inventive creation of cities, places, and neighborhoods. Centro has guided cities across the globe through various projects, redesigns, and improvement efforts. Under her leadership and expertise, Centro has become an internationally sought-after resource for best-practices and proven-processes in developing high-quality spaces and enhancing quality of life across communities.

Until launching her mayoral campaign in November 2018, Jamie also served as the president of the RiNo Art District, Denver’s mold-breaking River North neighborhood. She led the district and its various communities—ranging from business owners, artists, developers, and residents—through the special district process and on to the creation of a neighborhood wherein artists and developers work together to pursue a unique and united vision for the area. As president, Jamie oversaw district vision, advocacy policy, programs, and projects. In particular, she led on projects to advance affordability and mobility, green infrastructure, support for the homeless community, support for the creative community and much more.

Her work with RiNo, Centro—and her contribution to professional outlets and platforms—pushes the boundaries of how neighborhoods, districts, and communities operate to serve their residents and the cities of which they are a part.

Currently, she is a candidate for Denver Mayor and is campaigning towards a successful election in May 2019.

It is little things that can make a big difference

When Ernest Contreras wrote the Denver Lions to see if we might be able to help meet his need for $30 as his copay to get his dentures, Fletcher forwarded his email to me.  Of course there's a long story behind our being able to help -- the phone number he used was at Senior Services where I was connected to the wrong person with almost the same name -- but once we connected, Ernest walked to People's Dentist where they were holding his dentures until he had the copay, and between the administrator there, Mark Williams of our Foundation and me, we were able to get them a check and Ernest will have teeth before the week is over.  Both Ernest and the dental office folks were so grateful.  Amazing the impact in someone's life that our Foundation can make with $30.
Lending Hospital Equipment
We have received calls on our Lions office voicemail requesting the short-term need for hospital equipment.  While our club does not have the equipment to loan, there are other resources in the area.
